Through his visionary leadership at the Abyssinian Baptist Church, Rev. Butts revitalized Harlem with groundbreaking developments, including affordable housing and educational initiatives that empowered local residents. His deep commitment to public advocacy and tireless efforts to bridge faith and activism made him a beacon of hope for countless lives.

Within Choose Healthy Life, Rev. Butts championed the mission to eliminate health disparities, connecting the power of the Black church to create lasting impact in vulnerable communities. His unwavering vision for justice and equity continues to illuminate and inspire CHL’s work, leaving an indelible legacy of compassion and progress.

Cornelius Baker

Cornelius Baker, a cherished board member of Choose Healthy Life, will forever be remembered as a trailblazer in public health and an unwavering advocate for social justice. A pioneering force in the fight against HIV/AIDS, Cornelius co-authored the groundbreaking Minority AIDS Initiative in 1999, a pivotal effort that directed billions of dollars toward combating the epidemic and supporting underserved communities.

His tireless commitment to equity drove his work with organizations like the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation and the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS, where he championed policies and initiatives to address systemic health disparities. Beyond his advocacy, Cornelius’s passion for the arts and cultural engagement enriched lives and reflected his deep care for the human experience. His unwavering dedication to creating a more equitable world remains an inspiration, and his legacy will continue to guide Choose Healthy Life in its mission to achieve health equity for all.
