CHL Mourns Dr. Hazel Dukes, Civil Rights Leader and Icon

Today, we mourn the loss of a true civil rights icon, Dr. Hazel Dukes. A fearless advocate, mentor, and trailblazer, Dr. Dukes dedicated her life to the fight for justice, equality, and the health and well-being of the Black community.

At Choose Healthy Life, we are especially grateful for Dr. Dukes’ unwavering support of our founder, Debra Fraser-Howze, in her mission to address health disparities. From championing the National Black Leadership Commission on HIV/AIDS in 1987 to serving as a special advisor during the launch of Choose Healthy Life amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Dukes was a guiding force in ensuring that Black communities had access to critical health resources.

Her leadership, wisdom, and compassion have left an indelible mark on countless lives. As we honor her legacy, we recommit to the work she so passionately championed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Rest in power, Dr. Dukes. Your light will never fade.
